Tina Barney Behind The Scenes

Go behind the scenes on our Spring shoot with Tina Barney.

Tina Barney Spring Shoot

Tina Barney is one of my favorite photographers — we are both greatly inspired by our families and share a passion for interiors. For our Spring 2010 collection Tina shot a fictional family (Polly Mellen, Trish Goff, Noot Seear) in my apartment.

Morning Routine

tory_ivy_croppedframeQ: How much time does it take you to get ready in the morning? —Ashley, Chicago

A: Hi Ashley. Mornings are always busy with three boys so to simplify getting dressed I start with a printed blouse or dress that I love. Right now it is snake print. If I need to tone it down I layer a neutral jacket or sweater. I always add a bold piece of jewelry.

Behind the Scenes Fall 2010

Fall 2010 Styling Tips

Tory's style tips

Think utilitarian with a dose of high glamour:

  1. Boost neutrals: Give grey, black and camel a jolt with pops of tomato red and electric blue.
  2. Play with texture: Sequins with oilcloth, knits with feathers and shearling with painterly prints.
  3. Balance silhouette: Mix your slouchy with your slim.
  4. Be modern: Wear dresses over long sleeved t-shirts.
  5. Wear shorts and sequins to work: Pair with opaque tights and tough boots (or flats).
  6. Layer, Layer, Layer: Capes, jackets, coats, knit vests and sweaters over everything.
  7. Accessorize unexpectedly: Go for inset chains on bags, belts and shoes. Layer bangles over fingerless gloves and wear hoods alone.
  8. Borrow from the boys: Carry a satchel and slip into a workman’s style boot.
  9. Cinch it: Add belts over and under looks.
  10. Polish it off: Throw on a cape and adorn with a brooch.

Tina: Babysitting! I was a mother’s helper for my neighbor.
Kelly: Working for designer Mark Eisen as the assistant to the Director of Public Relations in NY.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BLOGGING AT BAGSNOB.COM?
Tina: We work from home, make our own hours, have employees around the world, have a very low overhead and best of all, “shop” for a living!
Kelly: I can wear pajamas! Also, as a mother of two young tots, my hours are very flexible.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE INSIDER DALLAS SPOT?

HOW DO YOU UNWIND?
Tina: Reading, massages from Tracey at Cooper Spa, trying on clothes in my closet and re-arranging my bags.
Kelly: Fortunately, shopping is part of my job so I use the opportunity to go out with my girlfriends and have a nice lunch while we’re at it.

WHAT’S YOUR BEAUTY SECRET?
Tina: A large glass of warm water (with vinegar if you can take it) each morning!
Kelly: The Clarsonic electric brush. It is like getting a daily facial.

WHO’S YOUR STYLE ICON?
Tina: My 96 year old Grandmother. She never left the house without lipstick and she taught me to treat all with kindness.
Kelly: Heidi Klum who proves that women can literally have it all.

Tina: The white Carson Hobo is an effortless and slouchy shape with a subtle structure—you can dress it up or down and it will take you from day to night. The perfect bag for any lifestyle!

Kelly: The Silver Tee with Sequins—wear with skinny jeans for day and just throw on sexy heels for an easy, chic cocktail look.
