Wish List: Amanda Hearst

Marie Claire’s Associate Market Editor Amanda Hearst is inspired by San Francisco, where today we are opening our first accessories-only boutique. Here, Amanda shares her fall Wish List.

Word of Mouth: Carine Roitfeld

The entire audience at Balenciaga’s spring show had to stand because the front row benches broke in two, and yet today in Paris, the only thing anyone could talk about was Carine Roitfeld’s triumphant return to the fashion publishing flock. (Was she really ever gone?) The former editor of French Vogue announced she will launch her own magazine next September, in English. People are wondering: Will it be called Carine or C? Stay tuned.

Style Tip: Alicia Colorblock Boot

The look: The season’s big trend — colorblock.

Style Tip: Try this graphic look in a less expected way with a bag or boot, like our Alicia Colorblock Boot. Its bold red-and-navy mix will brighten up your fall neutrals but will also work well with other interesting patterns. The high stacked heel balances fall’s new longer skirt and dress lengths.

Best Dressed: Du Juan

Photographed by Noa Griffel in Hong Kong

Chinese model Du Juan shows us how she wears our Waverly Blouse and shares her Shanghai secrets.

I love my job because… It suits me.

In this picture I am wearing… Tory Burch Waverly Blouse and Diesel jeans.

During Fashion Week… I had many fun experiences, the best was holding a small black cat while doing the catwalk…

My motto is… Be happy at work and enjoy life.

Best fashion advice ever… Try short hair.

I would like to make a difference by… Helping more poor children to go to school.

On my playlist… The Beatles

My favorite place for a fall getaway… Shanghai, because of the delicious crabs!

My favorite restaurant in Shanghai is… My family’s restaurant.

When you come to Shanghai you must… Go to Shanghai’s old alleys, such as Tian Zi Fang on Tai Kang Road.

Book of the Week

Paul Poiret’s famous Thousand and Second Night soiree in 1911 and Truman Capote’s 1966 Black and White ball are the stuff of fashion lore. We can relive them through Bals: Legendary Costume Balls of the Twentieth Century, for which historian Nicholas Foulkes researched nine of the most glamorous events, including first-person accounts from attendees like Jacqueline de Ribes and Marisa Berenson. We especially love the cover image of Lee Radziwill, one of Capote’s swans, adjusting her beaded mask.

Word of Mouth: Rock-umentaries

Is it us or are there a lot of great rock documentaries out right now? Between Cameron Crowe’s Pearl Jam Twenty, Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World and Jonathan Demme’s Neil Young Journeys, our next few Sunday nights are booked. Also noteworthy: U2: From the Sky Down and Paul McCartney: The Love We Make by Albert Maysle (of Grey Gardens fame).
