Tory’s Playlist — Halloween

Every Halloween Tory’s mother, Reva, would transform their house into an amazing scary movie set. “Growing up in the middle of nowhere with a 1/2 mile driveway in a 200 year old house rumored to have ghosts was quite an influence on me,” says Tory’s brother Jamie Robinson. Here some of the best songs from scary movies to set the scene.

1. Bad Moon Rising — Creedence Clearwater Revival from An American Werewolf in London
2. Beetlejuice: Main/End Titles — Danny Elfman from Beetlejuice
3. Bucket of Blood (Carrie) — Pino Donaggio from Carrie
4. Cat People (Putting Out Fire) — Giorgio Moroder & David Bowie from Cat People
5. Dracula: The Beginning — Wojciech Kilar from Bram Stoker’s Dracula
6. Halloween Theme — Monster’s Halloween Dance Music from John Carpenter’s Halloween
7. It’s All Forgotten Now — Ray Noble and His Orchestra from The Shining
8. Main Title — Denny Zeitlin from Invasion of the Body Snatchers
9. Making Love In The Apartment — Krzysztof Komeda from Rosemary’s Baby
10. Psycho: Suite — Elmer Bernstein from Psycho
11. Singin’ In the Rain — Gene Kelly from A Clockwork Orange
12. A Terrible Event — Javier Navarrete from The Devil’s Backbone
13. Themes and Variations — Franz Waxman from The Bride of Frankenstein
14. Tubular Bells — Mike Oldfield from The Exorcist
15. What Have You Done To Its Eyes? — Krzysztof Komeda from Rosemary’s Baby

We ♥ Chicago

Today, our Chicago boutique is moving (and growing) into a flagship on 45 Oak Street. Here, 10 things to do in Ferris Bueller’s hometown.

1. Start the day off with a run along Lake Michigan.
2. Have a coffee at local favorite Ipsento Coffee House, located in Bucktown.
3. Tour Robie House, the architectural masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright.
4. Check out the city’s public art scene in Millennium Park. Cloud Gate, locally called “The Bean,” and Crown Fountain are two of our favorites.
5. Order the chickpea fritters at Girl and the Goat, owned by Top Chef’s Stephanie Izard.
6. Visit Greektown, Chinatown and the Polish Triangle neighborhoods.
7. Check out the designer boutiques on the world-renowned Magnificent Mile.
8. See the city’s famous skyline. Take an Architecture Cruise down the Chicago river.
9. Dine at Alinea. The Hot Potato Cold Potato black truffle dish cannot be missed.
10. Go for drinks (and for spectacular views) at NoMi, located at the Park Hyatt.

To See: Burnt Offerings the Movie

“My brothers and I always used to watch Burnt Offerings around Halloween. It’s one of the all-time scariest movies. Every time I think about the attic in that old Victorian mansion and how the house rejuvenated itself with every accident…in a word: creepy.” — Tory

Tory Burch Fragrance

Tory is thrilled to announce that we are working on Tory Burch fragrance with Estée Lauder. We have always been inspired by Estée’s passion for philanthropy and entrepreneurship, and we are excited to partner with the Lauder company. The picture above is of Estée in the Sixties, mixing and developing scents like a true alchemist.

Ask Barbara: Public Speaking

Q: I get really anxious when speaking in front of large groups in meetings. What’s the best way to handle my nerves?

A: Know your subject matter. Keep your talk simple. Always focus on one person at a time. It seems more like you are having a one-on-one conversation. BREATHE!!!

Word of Mouth: Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has always had that rock star quality. Still, it was a delightful surprise when Johnny and Rolling Stone Keith Richards performed an impromptu six minute set at the after-party for The Rum Diary premiere. Which got us thinking…wouldn’t Johnny make an excellent Keith in a Rolling Stones bio pic?

To Do: International Rome Film Festival

First came Cannes, then came Venice and now all eyes are on Rome, with The Eternal City’s sixth annual International Film Festival. Animated projects in 3D — like Steven Spielberg’s Tintin and Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret — top the hot-ticket list. Revamped classics are also receiving major buzz: Richard Gere stars in Days Of Heaven (a 1978 Terrence Malick flick) while Holly Golightly fans celebrate the 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany’s with a digitally restored version of the film. Talk about la dolce vita….

To Do: The Shelburne Museum

  • A few looks from the Shelburne Museum’s High Style exhibit
  • Tory and Giovanni Bedin from the House of Worth
  • Shelburne Museum trustee Diana Colgate with Marco Scarani, left, and Jamie Creel
  • Embellished gowns from High Style
  • Mario Grauso, President of Vera Wang and  Sandy Golinkin

Tory recently visited Vermont’s Shelburne Museum to celebrate its new High Style exhibit. A unique mix of American and Modern art and fashion, the Shelburne was founded by Electra Havemeyer Webb — a true visionary with an incredible eye for art, architecture and fashion. Some highlights of the collection: the carriages; paintings by Manet, Degas and Homer; the exhibition buildings (historic structures Webb had moved to the site). Of course, we’re partial to the meticulously preserved fashion, from the House of Worth to Balenciaga.
