Can the color of your walls or the curve of your couch affect your psyche? Can the shape and style of your rooms be curative? In The Architecture of Happiness, Alain de Botton argues yes.

Everyone from Josephine Baker and Queen Elizabeth II to Catherine Deneuve and Cary Grant walked in Roger Vivier’s shoes. He was known for the pilgrim buckle pump, over-the-top thigh-high creations and kick-starting fashion’s obsession with the stiletto. If you’re a fan, over 400 of the famed designer’s shoes and paper collages are being auctioned at Aguttes right now.

There is something delightfully voyeuristic about the to-do lists of public figures. That’s why this list of chores by John Lennon is so compelling (and perhaps also why it’s selling for $3000). From the books he wants to read to humdrum tasks like waiting for the cable guy, it’s an intimate look at an icon’s day in the life.

Sometimes, it’s just too cold to go bare-legged, especially for winter holiday parties. Good thing sheer black tights are back and look great with everything from classic black satin pumps or metallic strappy sandals to colorful velvet styles. For day, opaque matte gray or black tights work with booties, boots and pumps alike.
What are the chances? The design duo behind Veronica Beard are sisters-in-law Veronica Swanson Beard and Veronica Miele Beard. Here’s another thing they share — they’re both Best Dressed for holiday. See the feature…

Be transported to a contemporary post-Castro Cuba with Michael Dweck’s Habana Libre. For the very first time, black and white photographs of beautiful models and personal interviews with sophisticated filmmakers and musicians reveal an edgier, sexy side to the country. The book exhibits what Cuban society is really like today. And it’s not just salsa dancing and cigars….

Tissus Tartares linens, family silver and an Imari bowl of coral peonies – Tory sets the table for Thanksgiving dinner.
“Thanksgiving has always been about being with friends and family at my parents’ farm in Valley Forge. My brothers and I would bring home friends who didn’t have a place to go. There was always way too much food, and my mother’s dessert table was the highlight of the menu — croquembouche, pumpkin mousse and gingerbread cookies. All weekend we played touch football and paddle tennis. My brothers and I made a homemade shooting range and used rotten pumpkins for target practice.” —Tory

One of Tory’s favorite traditions with her boys is putting together Thanksgiving baskets at God’s Love We Deliver, a local organization in New York that helps deliver meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. Thanks to the charity, 2,000 gift baskets will be delivered to those in need this Thursday, Thanksgiving morning.
