As if handmade gelato, the hum of Vespas and dreamy sunsets over the canals weren’t enough to lure you to the Floating City, the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale starts today. Curator Bice Curiger wanted an old-meets-new mix of artists. To wit, 32 of the 83 featured artists were born after 1975. The oldest? Jacopo Tintoreto, born in 1518. The works are displayed throughout Venice, including a centuries-old former monastery where James Franco will introduce “Rebel,” his film-sculpture-painting homage to James Dean.
