The creator of design blog Smitten Studio and homeware line A Sunny Afternoon shares her lakeside respite.

Where I’m going…
To our cabin on the shores of Lake Michigan. It’s a quiet escape from the city, almost no one is on the beach and the leaves change into the most brilliant colors.

I first came here because…
I grew up in Michigan and after six years in L.A., I started really missing the change of seasons. We took a trip back two summers ago and came across a little fixer-upper cabin on a gorgeous spot overlooking the lake. We knew if we put a little (or a lot) of work into it, the place would truly become our home away from home.

My uniform here is…
In the fall it’s usually jeans and a tee. A bikini if the summer warmth lingers a little longer.

Cabin living is all about…
Unplugging.

My preferred cabin decor is…
Clean, relaxed and about bringing the outdoors in.

Cabin getaway essentials…
A cozy sweater and a good book.

During the day I will…
Hike in the woods, swim in the lake and take naps in the sun.

At night I will…
Cuddle up by a fire on the beach with my husband and roast s’mores.

Michigan secret only a local would know…
Elina Organics facials are worth the trip from LA to Michigan alone.

Our fall cabin soundtrack/playlist includes…
A little Bob Dylan and some Alabama Shakes.

Favorite fall eats…
Anything with apples. You can’t beat a Michigan Honeycrisp and they only come out in the fall. My favorite apple dish is definitely my mom’s apple crisp.
