With countless galas, dinners and red carpets under her belt, Nicky Rothschild knows her way around event dressing. Her new collaboration with Australian designer Rebecca Vallance was therefore a nearly foregone conclusion once the two women met. The 31-piece capsule centers on holiday – their favorite time of year to dress up. Indeed, there is nary a piece without a sequin or crystal. We caught up with Nicky recently to chat about her inspirations and which dress she’ll be wearing this New Year’s Eve.
Tell us how the collaboration came together.
I have been wearing Rebecca’s designs for a few years now. She makes the best party dresses.! We met when I was pregnant, and I was trying to track down a dress that was sold out everywhere. I did what one does in modern-day: I slid into her DMs. Not long after she was visiting New York, we met up for margaritas at Zero Bond and the rest is history. We decided then and there that we would collaborate on a holiday party collection – our favorite time of year to dress up.
What was on your mood board?
The mood board was lots of ’90s supermodels, sparkly fabric swatches, crystal bows and photos of me in my favorite Rebecca Vallance looks.
Talk us through a few of your favorite pieces.
One of my favorites I have been wearing on repeat is the Leyla mini dress with crystal bows down the front. You feel like you’re wearing a piece of jewelry. I wore it to my birthday party in ice blue this year and in red for my holiday party with Saks last night. It’s the ultimate statement dress! The Alivia long sleeve mini and sleeveless mini are pretty fabulous too. I’ll definitely be wearing them year-round. The workmanship is next level.
What are your non-negotiables for the perfect party dress?
Sparkles!
Which style will you be wearing this New Year’s Eve?
I think I’m going to wear the Carmella long sleeve mini dress in red. It’s short and sexy with a built in corset and has crystals…obviously.
