Just like Joey Ramone and Debbie Harry, blue jeans never go out of style. Here, a few of Tory’s favorite denim-themed tunes.

A beautiful blue and a snap to make, designer John Derian’s refreshing cocktail will be a guaranteed summer smash hit. (Try it with other ripe berries for a twist on the original.)

There’s no denying a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to French style. A little effortless, a lot of chic, it’s hard to parse and pin down — or is it? In the book Paris Street Style, Isabelle Thomas and Frederique Veysset do exactly that. They break down the staples (e.g. thin-soled Tropézienne sandals), offer up bon-chic dos and don’ts — say yes to the V-neck cashmere pullover; no to the velvet hair grip — and even give tips on how to properly raid your grandmother’s/boyfriend’s/teenage niece’s closet. Here, a few select quotes from the tastemakers they interviewed.
It’s Bastille Day! How better to celebrate the French national holiday than with a French national pastime? So turn up the Edith Piaf, grab a glass of pastis (or rosé, if you prefer) and pick up a game of pétanque, the 100-year-old lawn bowling game. German actress Elke Sommer, snapped during the Cannes Film Festival in 1962, makes it look good, doesn’t she?
If an al fresco dinner — lit by twinkling votive candles and set to Brazilian beats — tempts you, then keep reading. Textile designer and artist Lulu de Kwiatkowski shares her secrets for summer entertaining and decorating with us.
How does Shala Monroque like her coconuts? Straight off the tree. The writer, traveler and all-round fashion-and-art maven recently went home to St. Lucia to see family and catch the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. Here, her insider’s guide.
We’ve introduced you to our love for tone-on-tone and print-on-print. But our new favorite motif? The curiously named but no less chic flowers-on-flowers. Simply pair a beautiful bouquet of blooms with a chic floral vase. To keep the combination elegant, stick to similar tones like Tory did here with whites. And let the size of the flowers do the contrasting — if your blossoms are oversized, arrange in a vase with a smaller floral pattern, and vice versa.
Shoes make the outfit. It’s all about finding the right shoe for the look. And so, from ballet flats to booties, pointy-toes to smoking slippers, we debut In These Shoes on Pinterest. Tory invited filmmaker Tabitha Denholm to shadow her and the team in the intense last few days before the Fall 2013 runway. Tabitha’s dreamy video Making of a Show (above and on Nowness) captures an intimate behind-the-scenes look at Tory’s pre-show process, from late-night fittings to the unveiling of the Gustav Klimt-inspired collection at New York’s Pierre Hotel — all set to the ambient tune of Try to Be by Montreal band Blue Hawaii.
Making of a Show isn’t the first time Tory’s worked with Tabitha Denholm. Here, she talks about their relationship and the experience of being shot by a fly-on-the-wall filmmaker this time around.

For some, Blue Hawaii evokes an Elvis Presley Sixties surfer flick. Around here? It’s the new must-hear band, whose song Try to Be serves as the soundtrack for Making of a Show, Tabitha Denholm’s behind-the-scenes film of Tory’s Fall 2013 show. Slightly ethereal, coolly ambient, it perfectly sets the mood — but what is the song, from Blue Hawaii’s debut album earlier this year, really about? We spoke with one-half of the Canadian duo, Raphaelle Standell-Preston (pictured here, right, with Alex Cowan), to find out.
Beading, embroidery, soft shearling — these are the sort of special details that transform a t-shirt into a statement-making masterpiece, a jacket into a jeweled treasure. Here, we take a magnifying glass to our collection’s most intricate embellishments. Click each outfit for a closer look.
In 1969, the Rolling Stones took the stage at London’s Hyde Park for a legendary outdoor concert. The crowd, some of whom had camped out overnight, numbered up to 500,000. Mick Taylor made his live debut, and thousands of white butterflies were released — a tribute to original guitarist Brian Jones, who had passed away just two days prior. Today, exactly forty four years and a day later, they’re commemorating that music milestone with another performance in Hyde Park. If you miss it, don’t worry, they’re returning for a second performance next Saturday. Just note that, this time around, the shows are capped at 65,000 seats.
“Happy 4th! We’re all wishing you a wonderful and relaxing extra-long weekend! I plan on being poolside with friends and family. Here, a simple blue-and-white table I set with fresh-cut peonies.” — Tory

It’s not easy categorizing Americana art, let alone the contemporary take on it. But the new book For Which It Stands by Farameh Media offers a compelling look at the subject, with an impressive collection of works by over 60 artists ranging from Barbara Kruger and Tom Sachs to Vik Muniz and Maurizio Cattelan. With 400 pages of intimate interviews and oversized images, it’s a dynamic cocktail of the nostalgic, provocative, witty and surprising, where fast food’s Golden Arches (painted in pretty porcelain blue) meets origami greenbacks and a jumpsuit-wearing Vanna White.

Set to the dreamy tunes of Jenn Grant’s Walk Away, our Pre-Fall 2013 video taps into the transition mode of the season, which lingers between the laid-back leisure of summer and fall’s more tailored, pulled-together mode. It features models Bette Franke and Cora Emmanuel — shot on a North Carolina beach by Matt Baron — as they channel not just the season’s cool and easy style but its attitude, too.
Drumroll, please. Tomorrow, Christian Lacroix makes his return to the couture stage with a highly anticipated collaboration with Schiaparelli, to be unveiled at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris — coincidentally, where he showed his final collection four years ago. Here, the fashion legend tells us all about the project, his earliest fashion memories and how his “impossible conversation” with the equally legendary Elsa Schiaparelli would go.
