By definition, espadrilles are a simple combination of woven jute sole and cotton-canvas upper. But we played with that easy-to-wear classic — a stripe here, a wedge there — and created a variety of styles that are flattering no matter your look, whether dressed up or down. Trust us, you’ll live in these all season long. And beyond.

Tory Entertains: Easter Table Setting

Got the blues for Easter? You bet. These indigo hues are cheerful and bright, right in step with the spring holiday. Here, straight from Tory’s own table, is a mix of pattern and print in one vivid hue. Florals, abstract graphics and arabesque swirls add depth and dimension. And each piece is tied to a different memory, like linens from a trip to India or a vase found with Reva. Periwinkle hydrangeas round out the setting and welcome family to the table for an Easter lunch.

Ask Tory: Wearing White

Q: How do I wear white without looking too plain?

A: White is a perennial classic. For spring it feels fresh in interesting textures, like an open-work knit sweater, lightweight crochet jacket or fringed skirt. And it makes a great canvas for embellishments, too — sequins, embroideries and appliqués, which add a touch of glamour for day or evening. Or try sun-bleached accessories, whether simple smoking slippers or a perforated handbag. I love how they can both pull together a pale monochromatic look and pop against bright colors.

To Do: Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat embodied downtown New York in the Eighties, its kinetic energy, explosion of color and emotion — and excess. All of it is on full display at New York’s Gagosian Gallery, which is holding a major exhibit of the artist’s works until April 6. With over 50 paintings, the show’s a brilliant mix of pop culture, abstract expressionism, racial commentary and his early graffiti roots. Basquiat may have famously noted that his work was 80 percent anger, but there’s plenty of humor here too. Keep an eye out for Onion Gum, the Joker and Riddler.
