What inspired Pre-Fall 2014?
Photographer Gertrud Arndt was the initial inspiration. She was one of the few female artists to come out of the Bauhaus movement. I loved how effortless her self-portraits looked. I was drawn to the streamlined mood and bold graphics of the era, in general.
What are you wearing here?
I’m wearing our Tavia jacket, which features our take on the chevron stripe. The Pre-Fall collection really focuses on bold graphics. In addition to stripes, we have some beautiful florals as well as polka dots — both big and small. We even created a special “striped” polka-dot pattern. The season’s pony print, meanwhile, offers a more refined take on the dot motif.
What are the key silhouettes?
Shapes are streamlined, in keeping with the Bauhaus spirit: jackets and skirts with crisp, clean lines; easy sweaters and sporty anoraks, and a great wide-leg pant inspired by a traditional military style.
What about the accessories?
The graphic mood extends to the accessories. There are wedges with polka-dot details, suede chevron bags and pony-print calf hair satchels. And the big bag of the season is the York. We really wanted something that was both utility and style, and the York multi-tasks as a work tote (it fits everything), but looks great on weekends or while traveling.
