Downtown, uptown and then downtown again. The life of a fashion editor is a peripatetic one, full of breakfast meetings, showroom appointments and evening events all over town. With a jam-packed schedule, Marie Claire’s Senior Market Editor Jessica Minkoff is always in motion. Here wearing Tory’s Kimba sweater and Lila jacket, she details the day she brought our Tory Burch for Fitbit metal hinged bracelet along for the ride.
- 6:00 AM
- Wake up five minutes before my alarm goes off — I have always been an early riser. Check emails right when I get out of bed.
- 6:30 AM
- Walk over to the YMCA for a swim. I have been swimming laps ever since I stopped doing ballet. It’s one of the only things that feels good on my body.
- 7:45 AM
- Shower and blow-dry my hair. The beauty of a short cut is that it only takes five minutes!
- 8:30 AM
- Time to get dressed. I am a certified pants girl, so no dresses or skirts for me. I tend to riff on some iteration of ripped jeans (right now I’m loving Frame Denim and RtA) or 3.1 Phillip Lim trousers and a printed Proenza Schouler t-shirt with a leather jacket — no matter what the temperature you will never see me sans jacket. I am a little more spontaneous with my accessories. My favorite shoes right now are studded Saint Laurent kitten heels and black and white Adidas Superstars. They both look cool with my Tory Burch Fitbit.
- 9:30 AM
- Breakfast meetings two or three times a week are the norm. I love to go to the Marlton Hotel on 8th Street and Morandi in the West Village — they both have amazing green tea. Today it’s Morandi with Dria Murphy, the PR Director of Keep, the coolest fashion app.
- 10:30 AM
- Next stop is Rachel Comey’s new flagship store in Soho to see her Resort collection. It’s the season that keeps on giving — I have been seeing Resort collections since the middle of May! Rachel’s raw denim pieces are definitely on my wish list.
- 11:00 AM
- A quick preview at Industria Superstudio, where Net-a-Porter is launching Net-a-Sporter, a new section of the website devoted to sporting attire, from tennis jumpers to swimwear.
- 11:30 AM
- We are currently closing the September issue, so that means I am chained to my desk for the next few hours signing off on final layouts and making tweaks to some of the stories that have yet to be finished. Lunch is usually a quick salad from Balducci’s. Pretty sure they know my order before I say anything — I am a creature of habit! I eat while writing, interviewing and scheduling for the October issue, which is already well on its way.
- 3:00 PM
- Oddly enough I have become the resident hand model at Marie Claire. I sit down for an NFL-inspired manicure for a story in our September issue. Can’t complain about some one-on-one time with Miss Pop — and a mani on the house!
- 4:30 PM
- Before heading out to afternoon appointments, I check in with our executive editor Riza Cruz. A daily check-in turns into a 45-minute conversation about everything other than work. She is the coolest.
- 5:30 PM
- Downtown to Soho for a meeting with Colleen Atwood at the Crosby Street Hotel. She is in town for her handbag launch with my friend Alicia Walker, who works at Citizens of Humanity. Love catching up with her while looking at the pony hair clutches and python backpacks.
- 6:00 PM
- On to an appointment at Starworks to see Resort collections from Sass & Bide, Zimmermann, Cushnie et Ochs and more. Loving Zimmermann’s ethereal lace pieces and the new sunglasses from Sass & Bide.
- 7:00 PM
- Meet my fiancé at home. We usually make dinner and relax on the couch unless I have an after-work event. I can’t complain about a quiet night in.
- 10:00 PM
- Check email before dozing off. Early to bed, early to rise.
