As the daughter of one of the world’s leading directors, Sasha Spielberg could easily have settled into a gilded life behind the hedges of a Bel Air mansion. Instead, this Brown alum chose to pursue her lifelong passion for live music as one half of Wardell, one of Hollywood’s most buzzed-about bands. (Brother Theo is the other half.) We love her rock’n’roll style, her edgy look and, most of all, we can’t get enough of her sound. Here, wearing looks from Resort 2015, she takes us behind the music.

My first concert was…
Backstreet Boys. This was also when I found out that concerts hurt my eardrums.

I knew I wanted to be in a band when…
I saw Almost Famous. No joke. I think that must be a common answer for people my age, right? But I’m so serious. Like, I wanted to sit in a hotel room harmonizing to Small Time Blues. But I think I really knew I wanted to be in a band was when I first performed my sophomore year of college in one. There was just no feeling like it.

The soundtrack of my life in high school…
The Strokes, Fiona Apple, anything from The O.C. soundtrack, Elliott Smith and various L.A. high school bands.

And of my life now…
A mix of Ariana Grande and Fleetwood Mac. And Bruce Springsteen. And Bettye Swann. And Alexandre Desplat.

My rock and roll style icons…
Patti Smith. Barbra Streisand. Michelle Phillips.

My go-to onstage outfit…
Anything tight on the waist. Whether that’s a pair of old high-waisted jeans with some body suit underneath, or a cutesie two-piece, I waist no time.

My favorite part about playing music in front of a crowd…
The “deep nod.” You know, when you’re mid-set, and someone in the front row is nodding so slowly and serenely you’d think they were on drugs. Maybe they were on drugs. Oops.

When I’m in the mood to hear live music I head to…
Somewhere quiet. I used to go to Largo a lot. I like chairs.

Band or musician I’m dying to see live…
Chilly Gonzales
