Friends and family of Oscar de la Renta knew how much he loved his home country, the Dominican Republic, including a little slice of white-sandy paradise called Tortuga Bay. Its vibrant sun-washed canary villas no doubt inspired some of the cheerier hues in the late designer’s collections. In 2014, the inexhaustible Mr. de la Renta set about redoing the interiors of the 13 villas that make up the recently reopened Tortuga Bay Hotel, part of the Puntacana Resort & Club. Here, his signature elegant style — mixing classicism, impeccable tailoring and splashes of color, pattern and texture — live on in the pretty ikats, mahogany decor and woven rattan details. And right about now, when the temperature gauge is reading “abysmally cold,” we’d like to be there.
