As anyone who’s ever done New York Fashion Week can attest — whether editor, model, designer or retailer — fitness is probably the last thing on the mind. Mornings start earlier, nights end later, the schedule’s packed, you’re on the go, go, go and eating on the go. But that doesn’t mean wellness should take a break for clothes (albeit some fabulous clothes). Just take a page from W Magazine’s Accessories Editor Nora Milch, here wearing Tory’s Shina top. She talks to Tory Daily about her fitness routines — which involve not one but four calorie-combating workouts. We’re sweating just thinking about it…
My Fashion Week fitness involves…
I do kickboxing with a group of friends at Punch Fitness Center twice a week. It’s on the Upper East Side and I live in the West Village so it’s a trek, especially during a busy week like NYFW but totally worth it. During the rest of the week I do a combination of group classes. My favorites are a barre class at Flex Studios, a cardio/Pilates class at ChaiseFitness, and a treadmill running class at Mile High Run Club.
And what I love about the above…
I used to be a member of Equinox but lost the ability to self-motivate. The trainers at Punch push us — it’s my hardest workout of the week. Plus it’s easier to get out of bed at 6 AM when you have a pre-paid class scheduled!
The variety of classes keeps me interested. If you’re running short on time, I recommend…
When I have a 9 AM show, I skip my morning workout. But I try (and usually fail) to eat healthier on these rest days.
The key to staying healthy during NYFW…
Skip the after-party!
My NYFW mornings begin with…
Hopefully an early morning workout!
My healthy between-show snack…
I like Orgain’s chocolate nutritional shake. It tastes like a dessert but is apparently a blend of fruits and veggies (not sure how that’s possible!).
We indulge in a big dinner out at Mr. Chow’s on the Saturday night after the Altuzarra show.
My ultimate workout playlist…
I have to confess, I mostly listen to Top 40.
Beauty secret…
I don’t wear very much makeup, but I love full eyebrows. I see Sania Vucetaj at Sania’s Brow Bar in Chelsea for shaping and I use her angled brow pencil every morning.
And when I’m in Europe for the shows…
I’m going to London Fashion Week this season. I will save suitcase space by leaving my workout clothes at home. I’ll burn calories running around to shows and presentations.
