As the editor of online retailer Moda Operandi, Hayley Bloomingdale spends her days and nights immersed in an endless swirl of runway shows and see-and-be-seen parties. Judging from her Instagram account, dinner with Karl Lagerfeld, a couture fitting and a turn on the dance floor of the Met Gala — alongside Taylor Swift and Beyoncé — are all in a day’s work. So it makes sense that her kickoff-to-summer getaway would be just as fabulous. Here, she tells us about her Memorial Day escape to St. Barts, which has us dreaming of exotic fruit punch and swims with sea turtles…
This Memorial Day I will be…
Kicking off wedding season in St. Barts for my friend’s wedding!
My suitcase will be filled with…
Sunscreen! Plus bikinis, a great colorful dress for the wedding and, of course, my dancing shoes.
The weekend will include…
Sunning, swimming, sipping and celebrating!
I plan to spend my days…
Loading up on much-needed sun, lunching at Eden Rock for their truffle pizza and salmon sushi on crispy rice, taking a hike to Colombier Beach and then swimming with the sea turtles in the middle of the bay.
And my nights…
With a Ti’ Punch in hand at Do Brazil at sunset — this is the only beach on the island where the sun sets perfectly over it! Then dancing and celebrating with friends at Le Tamarin or Baz Bar.
My favorite beach in St. Barts…
Flamands or Gouverneur Beach.
And when I’m looking for a fashion fix I head to…
Rockshop or Poupette for fun accessories and dresses, Lolita Jaca for colorful wraps and gorgeous kimonos and jumpers and Ligne St. Barth for local products.
My go-to look for day…
Swimsuit, sarong, sandals, straw tote and SPF!
And I’m most looking forward to wearing…
My new Aquazzura fringe sandals and my Tory Burch Ren smocked dress.
Summer beauty essentials…
I love a moisturizer with sunscreen in it like Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer and I love everything Tata Harper; her rejuvenating serum comes in the perfect travel size.
Tips for getting bikini ready after a long winter…
I am a Barry’s Bootcamp addict. I also Citi Bike to work now that the weather has returned to a non-frostbite-inducing temperature.
Book on my nightstand…
Too many to count. I’m currently on a historical fiction kick and just finished The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, which I loved.
Summer resolution…
No sunburns! Also maybe lay off my usual weekend motto of “rosé all day” and just go for “rosé a smaller part of the day.”
