Twenty-five years ago, Cindy Crawford was arguably the most recognizable face (and beauty mark, shoulders, legs…) in fashion. She, along with fellow Supes Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer ruled the runways, magazine covers and billboards from New York to Paris to Milan. Like many of her pals, Crawford had a plan for herself long past the catwalk — which she chronicles in her new book Becoming by Cindy Crawford (Rizzoli), and illustrated with photos from Penn, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Arthur Elgort, Annie Leibovitz and more. To celebrate her new book and incredible fashion career, Tory Daily asked Crawford for one of her favorite runway memories…
“Walking the runway for Dolce & Gabanna in 1991. I don’t know if you’d see me wearing this again — but I love this moment, because it melds two iconic looks: classic Cindy (with the big, sexy hair) and classic D&G (doing amazing lingerie inspired by their mothers and grandmothers). This picture takes us both back to our fashion roots!” — Cindy Crawford
