Vanessa Packer knows healthy living, inside and out. Not only is she a holistic nutritionist and co-founder of the wellness site bonberi, but the former stylist also launched her own fitness studio in New York, ModelFIT, with trainer Justin Gelband (who’s responsible for the regimens of Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel). We spent the day with Packer, here wearing Tory Sport, and learned her tips for staying both fit and zen through life.
First thing I do when I wake up…
Meditate — it gets me ready for the day and keeps me centered amidst the busyness of life.
I always end the day with…
Ginger tea because it’s soothing, and it helps me sleep. It’s also good for digestion!
My mantra is…
Work that body!
My tip to jump-start metabolism…
Start the day with a drink of warm water with lemon. Also, drink ginger tea after meals to help with digestion.
When I need an energy boost…
I do one of three things. Pound a glass of water. If that doesn’t work I resort to option two. Close my eyes for 10 minutes to either meditate or take a quick nap. Finally, if I’m still feeling tired, I drink green tea.
Lots of fresh fruits and veggies!
My juice/health drink of choice…
Anything green… Goddess of Green from The Butcher’s Daughter is my favorite!
Favorite exercise routines…
All of the ModelFIT classes. It’s the only workout I’ve found that sculpts and tones without bulking.
The best stretches…
I love a good side-body stretch. I also enjoy holding yoga poses to strengthen my balance.
My fitness tips for travelers…
Try to find something active to do every day. It doesn’t have to be going to the gym. It could be going for a long walk, going swimming. Anything active that gets your juices flowing.
Take a 10-minute break and walk around. Also, drink lots of water because office lights can be very draining.
I define wellness as…
Wellness is about finding a balance that works. It’s my foundation that I always have, even when indulging, traveling or falling off my typical routine.
When it comes to healthy living, always remember…
Breathe… Oh, and don’t put pressure on yourself. Healthy living should be fun. It shouldn’t be a struggle. It’s okay to take a day off. Your body needs to rest!
