Tory on the new design details — and what she keeps in her Robinson.
What is new about the Robinson bag collection?
We introduced the Robinson a few years ago, and it has always been one of our team’s favorites. It’s named after my parents, who loved to travel together to Morocco, Italy and anywhere their wanderlust took them. My father Buddy always carried a great bag for cameras, maps and books, and the Robinson was inspired by that. We updated the Robinson with a slimmer profile, more minimal hardware and a lighter feel. All-around, it’s more functional.
What are the silhouettes?
We evolved the silhouettes, too. There are polished totes in two sizes — both are great options for day, while the messenger and chain wallet can be worn cross-body or as sleek clutches. Shoulder bags have a refined vibe for day.
Which Robinson do you carry?
I carry the large zip tote in Poppy Red. It’s my everyday bag but also perfect for travel. It somehow fits everything I need for the airplane — laptop, iPad, magazines and newspapers, water, snacks and my D. Porthault baby pillow.
Poppy red is a strong color…
I love poppy red — it’s a bright, optimistic color, and we have been doing it in our collection for years. It works against camel, metallic, animal prints, neutrals and other brighter hues, too. The new Robinson comes in a great palette this season — eight colors and two patterns, from ultra complementary brown, ivory, stone, black, olive and a pale pink to a light blue and poppy red. And we added in a multicolored graphic embroidery as well as a laser-cut crosshatch pattern.
What do you carry in your Robinson day to day?
The usual suspects… iPhone (and a Blackberry), newspapers, our Panama sunglasses and Pas du Tout lip color, Jolie Fleur Bleue perfume and a few testers of our next perfume. And, of course, I have pictures of my boys and a red ribbon for good luck.
