The dresses! The red carpet! The celebrities! And, oh, the fun. Last night was the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala, A.K.A. fashion’s biggest party of the year. Before the event, Tory invited a few friends over, including actresses Mindy Kaling, Freida Pinto and Emma Roberts, who each wore a custom gown that tied in to the tech theme, inspired by the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit. Roberts’s chiffon plissé gown, in violet ombré hues, came outfitted with futuristic graphic details made from Swarovski crystal rocks while Pinto and Kaling’s looks both incorporated actual computerized tech: the crystals on the former’s open-back bonded-crepe gown and the latter’s minaudière changed colors with a little Swarovski magic (i.e. customized surface coatings, hidden batteries and multi-pixel technology). See Kaling’s clutch, worn with a hand-pleated iridescent fil coupé dress, in action below.
