There are beach reads, those guilty-pleasure books we devour as we soak up the sun, and then there are beach reads à la Herewith, a new magazine founded by Preston Murray, Randy Hild and Danielle Beck for surf and sea lovers. Here, we talk to Editor-in-Chief Megan Villa to learn more about the publication and discover her recs for the best surf spots right now.
Herewith is…
A guide and voice for a modern beach lifestyle.
The inspiration behind it…
The initial inspiration for Herewith was the 20- to 30-something girl who lives a creative life but is somehow drawn to the sea in some way. We wanted to showcase all these incredible women, brands, places and spaces from around the world that inspire us.
The most exciting part about my job…
Getting to uncover all these incredible stories of women around the world who all share a love with the sea. Getting to meet like-minded individuals from all walks of life and getting to tell their inspiring stories, whether they are a designer, artist, entrepreneur, farmer… It has been so much fun sharing these stories with our readers.
And the most challenging…
The most challenging part of being a part of a startup media outlet has been recognizing how times have changed and how brands are not looking to traditional advertising like they used to; now it is all about content creation, so we have been forming incredible partnerships with key brands to help them tell their stories with the Herewith spin on it.
Best business advice received…
Trust your gut, always trust your gut.
My 2017 resolutions…
I would love to get in the water more in 2017. I have a two-year-old daughter and work full-time, which doesn’t leave much “me time.” But I miss surfing and really need to make some more time for myself to do the things I love.
Top travel destinations for 2017…
My husband is from Salvador in northeastern Brazil, so we are really hoping to get back there this year to see family and spend days at the beach eating amazing seafood! Also, hoping to get back over to Maui, which is our favorite Hawaiian island.
And, for the surfers reading, the best waves right now can be found…
This time of year the waves are really good in Hawaii, especially the North Shore on Oahu. We just got back from a week on there, creating a bunch of content for Herewith and having a launch party for the second issue, which just came out. The waves are really good this time of year, but they can get pretty big. The good thing is that in that seven-mile miracle there are all types of waves, so there is something for everyone.
