Some are calling HBO’s new show Girls the Sex and the City for millennials. We call it darn funny and on-point no matter your age. And it has a pretty winning crew, from writer/filmmaker Lena Dunham and producer Judd Apatow to actress Allison Williams. We asked Williams, who plays Marnie, about the cultural phenomenon that is Girls.

“I think Girls shows that while every 20-something experience is specific, there are some fundamental explorative and discovery-related aspects that we all have in common. The girls on our show, like everybody my age (including me), think our predicaments are unique. There’s a great Joan Didion quotation from Goodbye to All That about this very thing: ‘One of the mixed blessings of being twenty and  twenty-one and even twenty-three is the conviction that nothing like  this, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, has ever happened  to anyone before.’ How true is that? Even as I read it, I thought, ‘Yeah, but my life is unlike anyone else’s.’ That’s how right she is.” — Allison Williams
