Tory’s Fall 2019 collection is inspired by the artists and ideals of Black Mountain College. Fortuitous then, that David Zwirner Gallery is launching a major show of artist Anni Albers. The German-born, Bauhaus School-educated textile artist, weaver and printmaker was one of the founding teachers of this forward-thinking art institution in North Carolina. Her circle of friends included art and design heavy hitters such as Josef Albers (her husband), Ruth Asawa, Merce Cunningham, Cy Twombly and the deKoonings. Her experimentation with color, shape, geometry, materials and scale pushed the boundaries of textile arts, redefining what it could be and creating a blueprint for what it was to become in the 20th Century. Anni Albers in on view at David Zwirner from September 10, 2019 through October 19, 2019.
