Good Vibrations
Try a little chanting. As Bernstein showed on her webinar, intentional breath work and sound work targets the vagus nerve, which runs from the cranium to the abdomen and interacts with the heart, lungs, and digestive tract. Targeting it with energetic humming or chanting helps wipe out hyper-arousal.
Hold Yourself
Place your right hand over your forehead and left hand over your heart. Close your eyes and breathe deep. Repeat a few times. Move your right hand to your stomach and keep your left hand on your heart. Again, breath deeply and allow yourself to sit with the uncertainty and fear. This will make you feel better than pretending to have control over the situation.
Tap Happy
Bernstein is most famous for her Tapping technique, a tool that she describes ad “acupressure and therapy combined.” Using your fingers to activate pressure points on our body allows the fight or flight mechanism in us to subside. Try a few rounds of intentional tapping at your eyebrow, chin, collarbone, underarm, top of head, while speaking your truths out loud, whether it be that you’re afraid for the economy or the well-being of your loved ones. It won’t make the global situation go away, but you’ll breathe a little more easily—and given what we’re dealing with, that’s no small thing.
