What inspired the Summer 2013 collection?
We tapped into the spirit of day-trippers with their vibrant pattern plays, bold color mixes and totally effortless silhouettes. It’s very much about travel — near or far — and what you pack.
So what would you pack, say, for a week in Morocco?
For travel, easy layers and looks that don’t wrinkle are key: a pretty printed dress like our Nico dress; lightweight cardigans and sporty knits; cropped jeans and graphic shorts, and a great pair of flat sandals for walking.
And for a weekend someplace closer, like the beach?
A lot of those looks still work. But I recently started paddleboarding, so I always pack a maillot and several surf shirts and bikini bottoms. At the beach, I basically live in caftans and tunics — there’s still nothing easier.
What are you wearing in this picture?
I’m wearing our Brigitte Blouse in a whimsical, summer-right lobster print. I love the safari-shirt details and tailored fit, but the breezy cotton makes it so comfortable for warm weather. I found the necklace in a market on my last trip to Morocco.
What are three summer essentials that can take you through the season?
A white dress — it can go minimal and crisp, but if you love pattern and texture, it’s the perfect canvas for bright accessories, cardigans, belts and beaded sandals. A second is an embellished top, like our Lucille, which works dressed up and tucked into a tailored skirt or pants for the office as well as laid-back over jeans for the weekend. And finally, no summer is complete without a statement sandal, either flat and jeweled or high and embroidered.
