Book of the Week: Beautiful Ruins

In a story that goes from a sun-kissed 1960s coastal town in Italy to present-day Hollywood (with a timeline jump to WWII), Walter’s signature wit is in peak form. As sprawling as the various narratives and characters — including Richard Burton circa Cleopatra — are, it makes for a beautiful read.

Book of the Week: Snowdon Blue

Just add blue (a beautifully basic blue button-down, that is). That is legendary photographer Lord Snowdon’s secret to making a great portrait of one of his famed subjects — David Bowie, Serge Gainsbourg and countless others — even greater. These portraits are collected in Snowdon Blue, a book his daughter Frances von Hofmannsthal penned in collaboration with Swedish denim label Acne, which has created a limited edition collection of just these kinds of shirts.

Style Tip: The Navy Suit

One of the quintessential wardrobe staples? A great navy suit. The secret to keeping it cool — not stuffy — is all in the styling. We took our latest version of this menswear classic — the Beverly Suit — and remixed it a few different ways. Worn together, it’s polished perfection. Broken apart, the blazer sharpens up the most casual looks. And a tailored navy pant? It doesn’t get more versatile than that.

Resort 2013: Preview

Resort 2013: Preview

“A recent trip to the Amalfi Coast inspired our Resort 2013 collection — soft whites and seafoam green with shades of pink, purple and blue. We did traditionally rich fabrics in casual, effortless ways: a striped knit with a pair of brocade clam diggers in pale gold and green, a ladylike day dress in a seahorse print or geometric, or a swimsuit with bustier detail. Our jewelry and accessories are laidback, too, from brocade brogues and straw bucket bags with paillettes to shell-and-crochet pendants and glitter walking sandals.” — Tory
